Dead end…the unknown ancestor

For some people, genealogy is a hobby, for others, it is a passion.  I fall in the passion spectrum of genealogy research.  I can spend hours, sometimes days, looking for documentation on an individual.  One of the things I learned in my recent class was that a genealogist needs to know when to quit.  There are times with the documentation on hand is not sufficient to identify the ancestor.  There are times when there is no gravestone, no birth record or death record.  There are times when wonderful documentation gets lost or destroyed.  And when I think about it, it is upsetting to think that there are ancestors that I will not be able to identify.  So for those ancestors who I cannot find and I cannot name, I want to thank you.  Without you, I would not be here.
